Week 16 Preview:

A six pack of plays for a Sunday with some pretty intriguing matchups both between teams and players. We’ve got some things mixed with overs/unders, quarterbacks, receivers, a tight end, and some of the league’s premier talent.

Our Picks:

Ryan Tannehill – Over 1.5 Touchdown Passes (-110)

The Titans Ryan Tannehill takes on the Saints in a virtual must-win game

Prior to last weekend Ryan Tannehill had been one of, if not the hottest quarterback in the league. He’ll face a tough Saints defense in a game that Tennessee really needs to stay alive in the playoff hunt. The Titans will run their offense through Derrick Henry as always, and the Saints will be focused on containing the running game, something they’ve done well all season. In his run as starter for TN, Tannehill has thrown at least 2 touchdown passes in every game except for one. Getting regular juice with the over 1.5 touchdowns, we’ll bank on him continuing that streak in a home game.

Kenny Golladay – Under 68.5 Yards Receiving (-115)

A rotating door of quarterbacks has slowed Lions WR Kenny Golladay down in recent weeks

Early in the season a yardage total of 68.5 receiving yards would have been really appealing for Kenny Golladay as he was having what should have been a Pro Bowl season. Unfortunately the loss of franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford and then backup Jeff Driskel has really taken it’s toll on him. Sunday he’ll be matched up with Chris Harris, Jr. who is coming off a pair of poor performances and will look to bounce back against David Blough at quarterback for Detroit. Blough has largely been unable to get the ball to Golladay (or really anyone) consistently and that shouldn’t change this weekend. Golladay’s stat line a week ago of 4 catches and 44 yards seems like it could repeat in Denver in what should be a cold weather and possibly low scoring game.

Julio Jones – Over 82.5 Yards Receiving (-115)

Julio Jones is fresh off of a two touchdown performance in the Falcons upset win versus the 49ers

Coming off of his most impressive game last week, the biggest question for our play with Julio Jones this week is whether we wanted to play his reception total or his yardage total. The fact of the matter is that they both should go over but to get a little better juice odds we are going to go with his yardage total over 82.5 yards receiving. Jones has a matchup against a secondary that has struggled all season and throughout his career with Matt Ryan at home Jones has averaged over 85 yards receiving so in simple terms he needs an average game. With Calvin Ridley out of the lineup Jones should see continue to be the featured weapon for Ryan. We lost an over with Julio a few weeks back, but it won’t scare us for going back to the potential future Hall of Famer.

Andy Dalton – Over 1.5 Touchdown Passes (+105)

The Bengals and QB Andy Dalton should finally have some offensive success against the Dolphins

The Cincinnati Bengals are last in the league with a paltry 15.5 points per game throughout this season. Battling through some injuries and a tough schedule they have an opportunity to really put some points up on the board when they visit the Dolphins. The completely outclassed Dolphins defense has played hard all year, but simply does not have the talent to compete week in and week out. The Bengals will feature running back Joe Mixon quite a bit as he’s been hot recently, but quarterback Andy Dalton should will be able to feast some too in the passing game. With the Dolphins giving up over 30 points per game, Dalton shouldn’t have an issue tossing two touchdown passes. The best part of this wager is we’re getting +105 odds on the bet so hopefully we’ll cash in a little higher than normal.

Michael Thomas – Over 8.5 Receptions (-120)

The surest prop bet this season to hit is Michael Thomas’ reception total

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is set to break the single season reception total of Marvin Harrison after what has been an absolutely remarkable campaign. Somehow throughout the record-breaking performances his catch total has really only gone up about 1 catch per game from earlier in the season. Last week Thomas beat his reception total in the first half, something that is pretty ridiculous when that total is over 8. His total this week sits at 8.5 when they take on the Tennessee Titans, a team that has given up a lot of points and yards defensively in recent weeks. There’s not a ton we need to say on this prop bet other than we’re going to see if the safest prop bet in the league can keep it going for one more week in his quest for the record.

Travis Kelce – Over 5.5 Receptions (-120)

Travis Kelce should see quite a few targets in the Chiefs Sunday Night Football contest

An intriguing inter-conference game in prime-time when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Chicago to take on the Bears. Despite a somewhat disappointing season, the Bears defense has continued to play well particular stopping opposing receivers. The big question here is why would we want to play the over on receptions with Travis Kelce if we just stated how well the bears have held down opposing wide receivers? The answer is simple, they have stopped wide receivers, but not tight ends. The Bears may be able to slow down Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and company, but Kelce should be able to get free enough to grab some passes.
