Daily fantasy football continues to climb in popularity as jackpots have risen consistently and more fans are joining sites every week. Our weekly article showcases players to target at three general levels of value: The big dollar talent (Heavy Hitters), the average-priced contributors (Average Athletes), and the guys very questionable players at the bottom of the cost charts (Sneaky Sleepers). Our selected players are based on DraftKings values as that is our daily fantasy site of choice, but the values should translate fairly well to any other sites you may use. We don’t share specific lineups or optimized computer rankings, but we will give you some great candidates for you to consider. We set this breakdown up that way because while winning is great, a big part of the fun draw of daily fantasy is mixing and matching your lineups to see how you can maximize your team. That and the fact that we are trying to win the same way that you are, and quite frankly, we don’t want our readers to all have the same exact lineups.
NFL Week 1 Recap
Who Made Us Look Brilliant?
Several of the week’s biggest performers were on our list so overall we’re pretty happy with our highlighted players headed by Josh Jacobs 3 touchdowns and a career day for Davante Adams.
- Josh Jacobs – 93 Yards Rushing, 46 Yards Receiving, 3 Total TDs
- Davante Adams – 156 Yards Receiving, 2 Total TDs
- Lamar Jackson – 275 Yards Passing, 45 Yards Rushing, 3 Total TDs
- Matt Ryan – 450 Yards Passing, 2 Total TDs
- T.J. Hockenson – 56 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Who Made Us Look Foolish?
Austin Ekeler who we had listed as our star player wasn’t bad, but had a pretty mediocre performance not getting to 100 total yards. Two other players we had high hopes for had their days derailed by injury as Marlon Mack exited early with a season-ending injury, and Michael Thomas battled through what was learned to be a high ankle sprain.
- Michael Thomas – 17 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
- Marlon Mack – 26 Yards Rushing, 30 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
Another early season big slate of games in week two including some interesting matchups. The most intriguing game of the week is Sunday Night between the Seahawks and Patriots so for DFS everything is on the table. Before we highlight our three levels of talent, let’s look at our projected star of the week:
NFL Week 2
STAR OF THE WEEK:
There are a couple of guys that are set up to have absolutely huge weeks when you look at the likes of Lamar Jackson and Davante Adams, so if you want to hitch your DFS wagon to them we won’t argue. Someone who may not be on your radar who probably should be this weekend is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. If you’ve been paying attention from the latter half of 2019 you noticed that despite what are often some relatively low yardage totals through the air, Allen has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in fantasy football. Why do we like him this week? Three main reasons: First, Allen has absolutely owned the Miami Dolphins in his four starts against them having his top four rated games and accounting for 15 total touchdowns in the meetings. Second, the Dolphins had all sorts of trouble with the read option in week one versus Cam Newton, a play the Bills ran often in their week one matchup. He should have some nice yardage with his legs. And third, Allen is fresh off of his first 300 yard passing game as the coaches opened up their offense showcasing all three of their talented wide receivers.
