Overview:
When you can’t even make it through week six of a survivor pool between two bettors it can be considered disappointing. The Chiefs let us down last week in a game we felt very confident in, enough to pass up the Patriots for. The Chiefs were selected by an estimated 38% of survivor pickers last week so if you’re in a pool chances are it got thinned out pretty quickly. Well we won’t be taking home any survivor trophies this year, we’ll keep playing for some pride and hopefully to help you out (insert laugh) if you need a hand.
Strategy / Odds:
With five teams off of the board things are finally starting to get a little interesting, particularly if you’ve used the cream of the crop teams in the league. Throw in the fact that there are only four games with spreads of a touchdown or greater and you can almost guarantee that there will be another round of knockouts this week. If you’re a true gambler there are opportunities to try to squeeze by using some really bad teams due to their matchups this weekend. In our experience, you need a whole lot of luck if that’s the route you want to go, however it can certainly work if you’re brave enough to give it a try.
Here is a quick glance at the four largest spreads for the week:
(Bovada Sportsbook 10/10/19)
New York Giants +17. at New England Patriots
Cincinnati Bengals +10.5 at Baltimore Ravens
Dallas Cowboys -7 at New York Jets
Pittsburgh Steelers +7 at Los Angeles Chargers
Since we’re both knocked out of our pool it’s pretty tempting to just wing it and roll with anyone at this point, but if we’re going to play it all the way through then we’re playing it all the way through. The safe money for anyone who has them available is playing the Patriots this week as there is about a .0000001% chance that the Giants would be able to go into Foxborough and come away with a win, particularly with a banged up offense on a short week. Yanni’s going to give it another crack at saving New England and instead is opting to go with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have looked terrible the past two weeks and will possibly be without both of their bookend tackles in their contest at the Jets. As 7 point favorites this is probably an inflated line as the Jets will be much more capable and competitive with starting quarterback Sam Darnold returning. That being said, it’s tough to picture the Cowboys losing a third straight at the hands of a Jets team that has some key injuries of their own on the defensive side of the ball.
Normally JJ is a by the numbers player so his pick for the weekend is a little surprising and daring. Having used the Ravens, Cowboys and Chargers already he dug a little deeper and ultimately decided to roll the dice with a slight favorite on the road, who oh by the way isn’t a good team. The good news is they’re playing an oh by the way even worse team. If this one works out, it’ll be really the only opportunity to use them so it’s the epitome of a high-risk and high-reward survivor play. Sign JJ up for Case Keenum and the 3.5 point favorite Washington Redskins in the toilet game of the weekend with tickets starting at $12.00! With interim head coach Bill Callahan filling in for the recently canned Jay Gruden, it’s likely the Skins’ will get a bit of a spark at least in this game, although the Dolphins know this is one of their few opportunities to grab a win this season. Let us know who wins this game when it’s over, we certainly won’t be watching.
