Daily fantasy football continues to climb in popularity as jackpots have risen consistently and more fans are joining sites every week. Our weekly article showcases players to target at three general levels of value: The big dollar talent (Heavy Hitters), the average-priced contributors (Average Athletes), and the guys very questionable players at the bottom of the cost charts (Sneaky Sleepers). Our selected players are based on DraftKings values as that is our daily fantasy site of choice, but the values should translate fairly well to any other sites you may use. We don’t share specific lineups or optimized computer rankings, but we will give you some great candidates for you to consider. We set this breakdown up that way because while winning is great, a big part of the fun draw of daily fantasy is mixing and matching your lineups to see how you can maximize your team. That and the fact that we are trying to win the same way that you are, and quite frankly, we don’t want our readers to all have the same exact lineups.
NFL Week 5 Recap
Week five was quite possibly the most “what if” Sunday we’ve had, at least in the last few seasons. Our lineups were stacked and fruitful, with one huge exception, that really held us back. Our Star of the Week James Robinson was absolutely non-impactful, and was the key cog in every singe one of our rosters. Had Robinson put up the stat line we expected, and he should have, it would have been a massive day of winnings. As it stands we pocketed a few bucks of profit thanks to some great performances from our other big players. There were a ton of guys that blew up we gave out, here’s a summary below:
These Players Made Us Look Good:
Josh Allen – 424 Yards Passing, 42 Yards Rushing, 4 Total TDs
Jalen Hurts – 239 Yards Receiving, 61 Yards Rushing, 2 Total TDs
Stefon Diggs – 102 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Nick Chubb – 134 Yards Rushing, 2 Total TDs
Dalvin Cook – 94 Yards Rushing, 27 Yards Receiving, 2 Total TDs
Carson Wentz – 359 yards Passing, 15 Yards Rushing, 2 Total TDs
Amari Cooper – 76 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Khalil Shakir – 75 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Dallas Cowboys DST – 5 sacks, 3 takeaways, 1 Total TD
These Players Made Us Look Foolish:
James Robinson – 27 Yards Rushing, 12 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
Tyler Conklin – 0 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
Chase Edmonds – 1 Yard Rushing, 0 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
NFL Week 6 Preview
The 2022 DFS season with DraftKings seems to fluctuate by positions week by week in terms of best value players. This week injuries force some second string running backs into action in what could be prominent roles. While it’s always good to scan the injury report in looking for potential weapons, this week is easily the most critical of the season. The availability of guys like Damien Harris and James Conner as example, have huge impact on who you should get into your lineups. Quarterback is another really interesting spot this weekend, with some great matchups for the big dollar players, but also some nice options in the middle tiers and lower tiers. For starters, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes could be in line for an epic dual, and stacking in that game might be a really great idea. Is Geno Smith still undervalued, or does he come back to reality this week? We’re still buyers, see who else we like below.
Before we highlight our three levels of talent, let’s look at our projected star of the week:
STAR OF THE WEEK:
The New England Patriots quietly offer as good of a 1-2 punch at running back as any team in the league, including the Browns, Packers and others. Starter Damien Harris left their week five win with a hamstring injury, and early indications show he could miss a week or more. Before you go locking Rhamondre Stevenson into your lineups, be sure to verify that Harris will in fact miss the game. If Harris is a go, you’ll want to adjust your rosters accordingly. Assuming Harris can’t go, Stevenson should see a hefty workload in their matchup against the Cleveland Browns. With Harris out against the Lions last Sunday, Stevenson went wild toting the ball 25 times for 164 yards and grabbing a couple of catches. With the way New England rotates running backs, Stevenson won’t see that many carries even if Harris is out, but he will see an increased role. Couple that with the way the Browns have not been able to stop any opposing runners, and he’s a really strong play at just $6,000. Check the active/inactive list, and get Stevenson in your lineups if Harris is a no-go on Sunday.
