Daily fantasy football continues to climb in popularity as jackpots have risen consistently and more fans are joining sites every week. Our weekly article showcases players to target at three general levels of value: The big dollar talent (Heavy Hitters), the average-priced contributors (Average Athletes), and the guys very questionable players at the bottom of the cost charts (Sneaky Sleepers). Our selected players are based on DraftKings values as that is our daily fantasy site of choice, but the values should translate fairly well to any other sites you may use. We don’t share specific lineups or optimized computer rankings, but we will give you some great candidates for you to consider. We set this breakdown up that way because while winning is great, a big part of the fun draw of daily fantasy is mixing and matching your lineups to see how you can maximize your team. That and the fact that we are trying to win the same way that you are, and quite frankly, we don’t want our readers to all have the same exact lineups.
NFL Week 13 Recap
Let’s start our week 13 recap by saying, WTF to Browns coach Kevin Stefanski. Our lineups were chalk full of running back Nick Chubb, and somehow, despite the best matchup they’ve had all season, Chubb only saw 17 touches, and only one inside the red zone. Had Chubb produced what we were expecting, which was 100 yards and at least a score or more, we would have smashed this weekend. As it stands, it was still another winning weekend, so no real complaints, just a little frustration from being oh so close to a big payday. Our Star of the Week Mike White, was very productive, throwing for a ton of yards and scoring a rushing TD. Despite his strong performance, he also could have done so much more, as the Jets were stuffed in the red zone and had to settle for five field goals. Having a combination of Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs and the correct tight end plays really helped the overall rosters. Here’s a breakdown of who came through and who didn’t.
These Players Made Us Look Good:
Justin Herbert – 335 Yards Passing, 7 Yards Rushing, 1 Total TDs
Joe Burrow – 286 Yards Passing, 46 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Davante Adams – 177 Yards Receiving, 2 Total TDs
Josh Jacobs – 144 Yards Rushing, 6 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Jared Goff – 340 Yards Passing, 0 Yards Rushing, 2 Total TDs
Mike White – 369 Yards Passing, 7 Yards Rushing, 1 Total TD
Tyler Lockett – 128 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
Evan Engram – 30 Yards Receiving, 1 Total TD
These Players Made Us Look Foolish:
Jimmy Garoppolo – 56 Yards Passing, 0 Yards Rushing, 0 Total TD
Zay Jones – 16 Yards Receiving, 0 Total TD
NFL Week 14 Preview
Running backs, running backs and more running backs. That’s the theme of week 14 as we’re torn on some really appealing options at the running back position, including some value plays. Our recommendation is for the flex to definitely be an RB, and to consider spending some money at the tight end position, and at wide receiver. That’s a little different than our normal philosophy, but the salaries and matchups really seem to dictate that this Sunday. If you’re looking to stack from a specific game, all signs point to a lot of potential scoring in the divisional matchup between the Vikings and Lions. With an over/under climbing around 54 points, the next highest matchup is a full touchdown below that. There are going to be some really high-scoring players this weekend, let’s see if we can grab the right ones.
Before we highlight our three levels of talent, let’s look at our projected star of the week:
STAR OF THE WEEK:
Before we get too far in our selection of Panthers running back D’Onta Foreman for Star of the Week, let’s put it out there that he likely won’t end up as a top five RB scorer on the day. There are simply too many great options at the position. Foreman is however in line for a really productive game, and at a $5,400 price tag, he’s about as much of a can’t miss play that you’ll find at the RB position on any given week. In simple terms, you’re going to need a Derrick Henry or a Tony Pollard to come through for you, but Foreman can definitely be a great complimentary piece at that price point. Foreman has been splitting some time with Chuba Hubbard, but holds a slight edge in snaps, and has been far more productive. The Panthers are somehow still alive in the playoff chase, by benefit of playing in the NFC South, so they’re still fighting as we head into stretch run. The Seahawks have had trouble stopping the run often this season, and particular against running backs that combine power and speed, which is something Foreman definitely has. With Sam Darnold in the lineup, the Seahawks have arguably their best threat of throwing the ball they’ve had all season. With even that slight bit of balance, Foreman should find some running room against the team that is second to last at stopping opposing backs in fantasy points.
